[Feb 14]*D5 Medical & Life Science Seminar*

January 4 2018

Date : February 14, 2018 (Wednesday)

Time : 17:30 -

Venue : IRCMS 1F Meeting Lounge

Speaker : Guojun Sheng, Ph.D.

Animal development involves constant changes in cell shape and intercellular organization. Such changes are often linked to cell lineage specification during tissue and organ development. This lecture will use early vertebrate development as an example to highlight how the dynamic nature of cellular morphogenesis is regulated by molecular and evolutionary forces. The processes of germ layer formation during aminal gastrulation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition during mesendoderm formation, and cardiovascular system formation will be explained in detail in this context. Implications of understanding developmental morphogenesis on cancer and stem cell research will be discussed.
