"Tumor Vessel Normalization : An Alternative Approach for Treating Cancer"

Tumor blood vessels are chaotic and destabilized through myriad biological processes. A destabilized tumor vasculature leads to limited drug delivery, hypoxia, detrimental tumor microenvironment, and even metastasis. Restoring the structural and functional integrity of tumor blood vessels results in both enhanced drug delivery and a beneficial microenvironment through promotion of blood flow, ultimately leading to reduced hypoxia, tumor invasion, and metastasis. However, effective therapeutic agents that can reverse destabilized tumor vessels into functional vasculature is an unmet need.
In this talk, I will introduce newly developed antibody ABTAA (Ang2-Binding and Tie2-Activating Antibody) which exert unique dual action and can normalize tumor blood vessels. I will also discuss that simultaneous Tie2 activation and Ang2 inhibition form a powerful therapeutic strategy to elicit a favorable tumor microenvironment and enhanced delivery of chemotherapeutic agent into tumors. Finally, I will demonstrate that concept of tumor vessel normalization can circumvent the drawbacks of currently used anti-angiogenic agents, and can also be a promising adjuvant anti-tumor approach that can maximize the therapeutic efficacy of conventional chemotherapeutic drugs in a combination treatment regimen.
