Title        : Nutritional and metabolic control of germline differentiation

Abstract 

Metabolic processes are essential for energy production, cellular building block synthesis, and regulation of cell functions and differentiation. Germ cells are fundamental for giving rise to future generations, making it crucial to understand the role and influence of metabolism in germ cell health. To achieve this, our prior proteomic and metabolomic studies comprehensively revealed metabolic characteristics and their changes during germ cell formation from pluripotent stem cells and subsequent differentiation in mice.

Recent research has further shown connections between dynamically regulated metabolic pathways, such as carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism, and epigenetic regulation in germ cells. This suggests that upregulation of specific metabolic pathways influences the epigenomic reorganization observed during germline differentiation. However, the significance of this relationship in germ cell health remains to be fully elucidated.

In this seminar, we present the regulation of germline differentiation through metabolism-epigenome crosstalk, along with the latest findings on its mechanisms. Additionally, we will discuss the potential regulation of germ cell health and reproductive function through the nutritional environment. This research highlights the intricate interplay between metabolism and epigenome in germ cells, offering insights into the fundamental processes governing reproductive biology.
