[June 22nd ] Joint Invited Speaker Seminar Series for Future Medicine

June 10 2022

The "Joint Invited Speaker Seminar Series for Future Medicine" will be co-hosted by Korea  Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) GSMSE and International Research Center for Medical Sciences (IRCMS). It will run from May 2022 to September 2022, with lecture given by scientists who are affiliated with IRCMS or in collaboration with reseachers at IRCMS. The lectures will be given three times a month, in English, and by leading scientists in the relevant research field.

Date : June 22nd (Wed)

Time : 10:00 (JST)

Speaker : Dr. Shalin Naik
The Walter and Eliza Institute of Medical Research (WEHI)

Title : Clonal Biology in development, immunology and cancer

Abstract:

Single cell genomics approaches are revolutionising how immunology is studied. However, in the absence of a time machine, one cannot both ascertain the molecular profile of a single cell AND its clonal destiny. This is because measurement of one (e.g. destructive single cell RNA-seq) precludes testing of the other (e.g. clonal fate). Instead, we have developed clonal multi-omics that solves the time machine dilemma. Here, daughters of individual clones are tested separately for gene expression and fate, thus identifying the regulators of clonal behaviour. We have also developed novel clonal lineage tracing tools, including a novel LoxCode mouse that performs in situ barcoding to unravel the complexity of haematopoiesis and embryogenesis. This talk will highlight how we are using these approaches to tackle questions in haematopoiesis, development and cancer.

This seminar will be held via Zoom.
