Distinguished professor Sarah Rowland-Jones, who is double appointed between IRCMS and the University of Oxford, recently started a one year term of office as President of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), only the second female president of the Society in its one hundred and eleven year history.
RSTMH is dedicated to the advancement of tropical medicine and improvements in global health, and has members in 84 countries around the world. She will work with the Board of Trustees to build on the recently-launched RSTMH strategy, which aims to promote increased access and greater equity in health care in resource-limited settings, whilst thinking about health in the tropics in its broader context, alongside animal and planetary health, and the underlying social, economic and political factors that determine health around the world.
