Research Field: Haematopoietic stem cells

Elisa Laurenti's research aims to understand how blood is formed in humans, by studying haematopoietic stem (HSC) and progenitor cells, at the cellular, functional and molecular level. She received her PhD from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), where, under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Trumpp, she investigated Myc activity and quiescence in mouse HSCs.  She then trained with Dr John Dick (Toronto, Canada), who pioneered the study of human HSC and leukaemia. Since 2014, she is a group leader at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (United Kingdom). Her research programme integrates functional and genome-wide assays on single cells to study how the unique molecular and functional properties of human HSC are maintained over a human lifetime and altered by stress.
